Super Bell
The Super Bell is a power-up found in Super Mario 64. It is a golden striped bell with beady eyes. When it is obtained, Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, or Bowser transforms into their Cat form, allowing them to slide into your DMs, pounce on you, and climb up your walls.
History
Super Mario series
Super Mario 64 / Super Mario 64 DS
In Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS, Super Bells serve as a hidden powerup accessible only in levels with trees or poles. Grabbing one turns Mario and friends into their Cat forms, letting them scratch or pounce on people with B (while grounded or in midair, respectively), slide into DMs (instead of dive rolls), and climb up walls. There is also another feature where when Mario, Luigi, Toad, or Bowser does a ground-pound and presses Z again the moment they land, they briefly turn invincible but immobile as they quickly cycle through a rainbow of colors.
While Super Bells are present in Bob-omb Battlefield, they are usually first seen in Whomp's Fortress, where they are flung out of the tree that the Owl resides in on missions where the Owl does not spawn. Like most power-ups, these can sometimes be found inside ! Blocks, but the blocks they spawn from only appear once all cap switches have been pressed.
The Super Bell also appears in Super Mario 64 DS, where it also has a dedicated single-star secret stage where it appears and is required to defeat the Nipster.
Other Series
Minecraft
Bells in the Super Mario Mash-up of Minecraft take on the appearance of Super Bells without eyes.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie
In The Super Mario Bros. Movie, voxelated Super Bells can be seen being sold at the antiques store. In addition, during the battle against Donkey Kong in the Great Ring of Kong, Mario transforms into a cat offscreen via a ! Block, though he is not shown or heard collecting a Super Bell or any other power-up.
