Straining in Super Mario 64 involves pouring a liquid substance through a porous or perforated device or material in order to separate out any solid matter. Straining is applicable in many full-game categories of Super Mario 64 including any%, 16 star, all signs, walkless, and moveless.
Uses
- In JRB to collect the star "Through the Jet Stream" without swimming.
- In DDD to kill all the fish, allowing you to collect the stars much easier.
- In WDW by interacting with the lowest water crystal, draining the water out of the stage and killing all the fish.
- In SA to reach the star at the bottom of the level and kill all the fish. This also makes it impossible to collect any red coins.
- In the Castle Grounds to kill all the fish and enter the moat door without having to do Moat Door Skip.
